Gabriel P. L￳pez Named New Vice President for Research at UNM

The Center for Advanced Research Computing is one of four campus-wide, transdisciplinary Centers at the University of New Mexico reporting to the Office of the Vice President for Research. Following a national search, UNM has chosen Dr. Gabriel P. López, a veteran UNM professor and founding director of the UNM Center for Biomedical Engineering, as its new Vice President for Research. López is the founding director of a major National Science Foundation research center in North Carolina's Research Triangle Park, and is currently a professor of biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, and materials sceince at Duke University. An article in the Albuquerque Journal noted that in 2006, the editors of Hispanic Engineering and Information Technology selected López as one of the "100 most important Hispanics in technology and business."
